I paint evidence-based florals because others tell me my art helps them heal and feel happy.
I’m really more of an abstract minimalist artist, but my reason for painting mostly flowers in local landscapes started as something painful and personal. Here’s the story: A strong and successful family member I care about was in “critical” emotional crisis. I wanted to reach out and do or say something, but I felt whatever I had to offer just wouldn’t be effective enough. I sent good wishes on “the airwaves” and kept in touch, but then I started doing something really weird. Each day I sent this grown adult with a super-high-powered life a photo of flowers from my yard or from around town and called it Today’s flower to make you happy. He later told me words of advice or comfort would not have helped, but the flowers did. I learned that flowers—so soft and subtle and often forgotten—offer us tremendous power for human health and healing!
